Find It Virginia Privacy Policy

Find It Virginia serves as a remote authentication service for all state funded public library databases. Users will be asked to select their local public library and enter their library barcode number. Find It Virginia procedures verify access by use of an acceptable public library barcode number and do not connect the identity of the user to that barcode number.

The privacy of Find It Virginia users is valued. We do not collect information on an individual level. For each user, we collect information about the Internet Protocol (IP) address, type of browser used, the date and time of the visit, name of public library selected, and the IP addresses of the locations to which the user linked during his or her visit to our Web site. This information is strictly used for statistical reporting purposes.

Cookies

"Cookies" are small files either stored on a server or sent back to a visiting computer. In certain applications user information is stored as "cookies" of the type that are then sent back and stored on the user's computer. The databases available through Find It Virginia use cookies to provide searching functionality. No user information is gathered through cookies except for that needed to run the specific application. You will need to set your browser to accept cookies in order to use the databases.

Our subscription databases use a persistent cookie to store "InfoMarks," a method of sending and receiving research material between subscribers, which may be sent and received by users of the system via email or other means of transmission. All other cookies created by Gale products are non-persistent, and are deleted when the user closes the browser. None of the cookies created by the Gale Group stores any information about a user, nor do we solicit user information for any reason.
